Competition may ensure quality in managed care
Article Abstract:
Allowing patients to control their choice is the only way to ensure quality in health care. Managed care is currently cost-focused, in order to be competitive. Increased competition will cause managed care providers to either spend more to obtain new patients or offer more benefits at the same cost and thus decrease their profits. Quality of care, therefore, is not the determining factor for managed care competitors. If the competition narrows the market to the most financially sound managed care providers, patients and their physicians will become the primary decision-makers.

How best to take medical care into the 21st century
Article Abstract:
Patients should take more financial responsibility for their health care and health insurance to the extent that they can afford to do so. Also, physicians should be allowed more power to allocate medical resources due to increases in patients' demands for quality health care. Also, health insurance should not be a benefit of employment, but rather property owned by the patient.
