Concurrent sentences - dialysis in the state penitentiary
Article Abstract:
A prison doctor's view on the patient undergoing dialysis in a prison ward due to kidney failure in many cases caused by hypertension or previous drug abuse rather than the diabetes that is more common in the average dialysis unit is presented. According to him, dialysis itself is a sort of prison sentence, which involves tying the patients to a machine for 4 hours at a time, three times a week, for as long as they stay alive.

Perioperative stroke
Article Abstract:
The pathophysiology of perioperative stroke is reviewed to provide recommendations for the stratification of risk and the management of risk factors. Evidences show that initiation of antiplatelet therapy such as aspirin after cardiac and carotid surgeries reduces the incidence of post-operative stroke without increasing the odds of bleeding complications.

Obstructive sleep apnea as a risk factor for stroke and death
Article Abstract:
Proportional-hazard analysis is used to determine the independent effect of the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome on the composite outcome of stroke or death from any cause. The obstructive sleep apnea syndrome significantly increases the risk of stroke or death from any cause, and the increase is independent of other risk factors, including hypertension.
