Contraception: Norplant
Article Abstract:
About 40,000 British women use the Norplant hormonal contraceptive implant made by Roussel. Six time-release capsules are inserted in the arm and should last for five years prior to their eventual removal. The contraceptive should be implanted by trained medical personnel under local anaesthetic. About 20% of general practices are able to offer the contraceptive, although many are calling for more widespread availability. Feedback from users is generally positive, although the capsules can be seen under the skin of more than 33% of users.

Counting the cost
Article Abstract:
Nursing has for some time been recognised as one of the most stressful professions, with nurses facing heavy workloads and job insecurity. Research indicates that there has been an increase in suicides among nurses, while others have reported a range of health problems which they attribute to stress. Some NHS trusts are now responding by taking steps to improve the working environment for nurses.

Uncertain support
Article Abstract:
Mental health client carers doubt that community care will improve services. Most feel inadequate resources are available for needs. Some consider a statutory body necessary to enforce provision. National Schizophrenia Fellowship Group coordinator, Judith Baptiste considers huge staff requirements of community care have been overlooked.
