Phase 1 trial of the topical microbicide BufferGel: safety results from four international sites
Article Abstract:
The vaginal gel BufferGel appears to reduce the risk of bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection, according to a study of 98 women who used the product. It was safe and caused a mild irritation in one-fourth of the women.

Safety, acceptability, and potential efficacy of a topical penile microbicide wipe
Article Abstract:
Two studies were conducted to determine the safety, acceptability, and potential efficacy of a benzalkonium chloride topical penile microbicide wipe. Acceptability concerns did not increase with dose escalation and adherence to use of the wipe ranged from 89%-95% and the penile wipe is safe, acceptable and can decrease the frequency of penile colonization with microorganisms.

Correlates and trend of HIV prevalence among female sex workers attending sexually transmitted disease clinics in Pune, India (1993-2002)
Article Abstract:
The impact of awareness regarding safe sex in a cohort of female sex workers (FSWs) is assessed by studying the trends in HIV prevalence, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and risk behaviors measured from 1993 to 2002 in Pune, India. The research shows that the prevalence of genital ulcer disease has decreased with time, as the usage and safe sex interventions have become more common among the FSWs in Pune.
