Cow's milk allergy: therapeutic options and immunological aspects
Article Abstract:
The great diversity and varying severity of symptoms of cow's milk allergy has made it difficult for proper clinical diagnosis which is often based on criteria that are confirmed by challenge with cow's milk. The occurrence of more than 20 constituent proteins in cow's milk makes it capable of giving rise to an IgE mediated response. Various research to investigate the role of humoral and cell-mediated immunity in the pathogenesis of cow's milk allergy is undertaken to understand the immunological mechanisms involved in cow's milk allergy.

'Prevention programmes'- a dietetic minefield
Article Abstract:
According to recent studies on the prevention programmes for high risk infants, the mode of exclusive breast feeding along with a hypoallergenic diet, or feeding an appropriate hydrolyzed formula, is suggested for all infants, particularly for those infants with a previously affected sibling. The timing and order of food introduction is an important factor for these case. It is also important not to set up the prevention programmes without the provision of adequate resources. This factors relating to the nutrition of infants is discussed.

The treatment of cow's milk allergy
Article Abstract:
Extensive hydrolyzed cow's milk-derived formulas, a substitute formula for cow milk protein, is safe for infants which are efficient and clinically and metabolically well tolerated. The approach is not successful to control allergic inflammation by antigen elimination, particularly for patients with multiply food. The need to develop new approaches that may include antigen elimination supplemented with synthetic amino acid-derived formulas is emphasized.
