Create a corporate safety culture
Article Abstract:
Employee-empowerment programs dealing with safety measures may be a cost-effective key to enhance productivity. These safety programs need open communication lines between management and employees to be successful. Management should encourage employees to audit workplace procedures which may be potentially hazardous. Aside from training employees to be more conscious of safety measures, the program needs constant evaluation of progress.

When bad things happen to good safety directors
Article Abstract:
A major occupational hazard that a safety director may encounter on the job is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Feelings of guilt, anxiety and irritability are felt when accidents happen in the work site. Nightmares, insomnia, flashbacks, agitation and difficulty in concentrating are among other symptoms of PTSD. Preparation is considered as one of the best antidotes to post-traumatic stress.
