Critical thinking in clinical learning: a holistic perspective
Article Abstract:
Nursing students today must learn to work in a highly technical medical environment without losing sight of the patient's psychosocial needs. Learning to think critically, that is, learning to elicit, assimilate, analyze, and evaluate information in order to develop unique and individualized solutions contributes to the ability to meet all the patient's needs. Techniques that encourage critical thinking include assigning students with differing strengths to work together, using case studies, and simulated patient encounters.

Decisions regarding dialysis treatment modality: a holistic perspective
Article Abstract:
Several factors may influence how patients with end-stage kidney disease decide whether to use four times daily self-directed dialysis or attend a clinic every other day for machine-based dialysis. Twenty-two patients requiring dialysis completed questionnaires regarding their decision-making process. Physical, mental, spiritual, cultural, and developmental reasons were given for their choices.
