Critics slam Russian trial to test pig pancreas for diabetics
Article Abstract:
Melbourne-based Living Cell Technologies' DiabeCell treatment for long-term diabetics is described, which Russian authorities approved by in February 2007. However, medical critics have criticized the treatment, claiming it is unethical to use pig pancreatic beta cells which produce insulin, to be used in humans.

Fat hormones pull their weight in the CNS
Article Abstract:
The hormone adiponectin regulates glucose metabolism through actions on peripheral tissues and this hormone is secreted in fat cells. Hence, it is expected that the dysregulation of the actions of adiponectin in the CNS may influence the development of both obesity and diabetes.

A recent study indicated links between diabetes and the defects residing in the central nervous system due to the disease. The causes of diabetes are discussed and the way its affects the nervous system are also discussed.
