Cytokine-induced secretion of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 by human endometriotic cells in culture
Article Abstract:
Under the influence of interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), endometriotic tissue is capable of producing a chemical attractant for macrophages, a white blood cell involved in the inflammatory process. IL-1beta and TNF-alpha are inflammation stimulating substances found in the peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis. Recruitment of macrophages is also a hallmark of endometriosis. Endometriotic tissue was obtained from six women undergoing laparoscopy. Tissues were dissociated into component cells, cultured, and incubated with different concentrations of inflammatory stimulants. The culture fluid was assayed for the presence of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1). IL-1beta and TNF-alpha stimulated release of MCP-1 in a time- and dose-dependent manner. TNF-1 and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) had a synergistic effect on MCP-1 production, whereas IFN-gamma alone had no effect.

Expression of dioxin-related transactivating factors and target genes in human eutopic endometrial and endometriotic tissues
Article Abstract:
Researchers have detected a possible link between dioxin exposure and endometriosis. They detected increased expression of genes that are stimulated by dioxin in endometrial samples from women with endometriosis as well as increased levels of a receptor that binds dioxin.

Endometriotic umbilical port site metastasis after laparoscopy
Article Abstract:
A case was presented pertaining to a 40-year-old woman who had previously been operated for endometrioma fews years ago by laparoscopy. Complains regarding an umbilical mass with cyclical pain pattern revealed it to be an endometriotic implant.
