Article Abstract:

A clinical trainer working with drug users in London describes how his travel scholarship to Australia allowed him to examine clinical practices in Australia relating to the rate of HIV amongst injecting drug users. The HIV prevalence rate is currently around 2% compared to about 10% in the UK. He visited methadone maintenance clinics and other treatment, community resource and research centres. He found that Australia had adopted a tripartisan approach of government strategies, and high levels of training and community responses to tackle HIV and hepatitis C.

Article Abstract:

The Reagan Administration has been reluctant to encourage development of a plan to deal with acid rain, and has called William Ruchelhaus' standards for uses of toxic chemicals too strict. Under Ruchelhaus, the Environmental Protection Agency has continued efforts to clean up hazardous waste dumps and prosecute polluters. The EPA has banned most agricultural uses of ethylene dibromide, and established safety standards for workers who make EDB.
