Day in day out
Article Abstract:
Increased use of day surgery has allowed nurse practitioners to develop their skills in nursing and clinical assessment. Nurses deal face to face with patients and can assess their suitability for day surgery by use of a health questionnaire and recognized set of protocols depending on age, motivation and weight. Nurses are increasingly being asked to assist with day surgery, either by helping to prepare patients or being actively involved in the surgery process, although strict guidelines must be adhered to in order to safe guard both doctor and nurse.

Clinical audit makes progress in care and teamwork
Article Abstract:
Clinical audit in the UK National health Service (NHS) can help to improve standards for the care of patients. An audit involves analyzing procedures for diagnosing patients and treating them, in addition to assess ing the costs involved and the outcome for the patient. Audits need to be supported by the top levels of the hierarchy and should be integrated with the tasks of all the clinical teams involved. Audits should also be focused on improving care for patients.
