Delayed-interval delivery: extended series from a single maternal-fetal medicine practice
Article Abstract:
Some women with a multiple pregnancy may benefit from delayed-interval delivery. During this type of delivery, not all of the babies are delivered at once. The remaining babies can be delivered several weeks or months later, when they would have a better chance of surviving.

Selective delivery in a twin gestation
Article Abstract:
A case is reported of a pregnant woman who had emergency abdominal surgery to deliver one infant in a twin pregnancy. Ultrasound scans at 26 weeks showed that one twin was much smaller than the other, weighed half as much and had reduced amniotic fluid and abnormal blood flow. Her physicians decided to open her abdomen and deliver this twin, sew the abdomen back up and allow her to continue the pregnancy. This was done at 28 weeks and the male infant was discharged after 97 days. The second twin was delivered at 31 weeks via a cesarean and was discharged after 32 days.

Delayed-interval delivery in multifetal pregnancy
Article Abstract:
The outcome of premature infants in multiple pregnancies can be substantially improved if their delivery is delayed even after one of the infants is delivered. Researchers attempted to delay delivery in nine premature multiple pregnancies. After the first infant was born, the umbilical cord was tied off without removing the placenta. The mother was given drugs to stop labor and her cervix was surgically closed. Amniocentesis was performed to make sure infection had not occurred. The remaining infants were delivered 3 to 76 days later. Infant outcomes were significantly better in these infants.
