Diet and nutritional status in children with cow's milk allergy
Article Abstract:
A study of the nutritional aspects and suitability of the diet in 18 children suffering from cow's milk allergy (CMA) and 20 healthy children showed that CMA children's nutrition must be monitored and that height-for-age was lower than in healthy children. Seventy-two percent of the CMA subjects used diets based on soy or casein hydrolysate with the average consumption of zinc and energy in all children and the intake of iron in healthy children being less than the recommended dietary allowances. CMA children consumed more fat and less protein than their healthy counterparts.

Food variety - a good indicator of nutritional adequacy of the diet? A case study from an urban area of Mali, West Africa
Article Abstract:
The nutritional adequacy of an individual's diet can be predicted by counting food groups in a Dietary Diversity Score, according to research undertaken among 77 children aged less than five in Koutiala, Mali. This score is a more effective predictor of nutritional adequacy than a simple food count. It was established that food and dietary scores can identify quite well the children with an insufficient nutrient intake. It is possible that the conclusions of this research are valid only for urban areas where food is relatively easily available.

Nutritional survey in Greek children: nutrient intake
Article Abstract:
Nutrient intake and eating habits of Greek children using the 3 d record method were studied. This nutritional survey was based on a random stratified sample made according to urban, rural and semiurban areas and socioeconomic distribution. Results have shown that Greek children underintake carbohydrates, do not underintake energy and protein, overintake saturated fatty acids, have adequate intake of calcium, high phosphorus intake, safe intake of vitamin A and C but low in vitamin D.
