Dietary factors and cancers of the breast, endometrium, and ovary: strategies for modifying fat intake in African American women
Article Abstract:
Diet modification may reduce the incidence of breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer in black women. Black women have higher incidences of these types of cancer. Low-income black women typically eat diets that are high in fat and low in fiber, and evidence suggests that this diet promotes these cancers. However, to achieve success, diet modification programs must meet the needs of the target population. They must rely on accepted community leaders, be offered in venues that are accessible and where the target population feels at ease, incorporate culturally traditional foods, and suggest multiple strategies.

Phytoestrogens and breast cancer prevention: what is the evidence?
Article Abstract:
More research is needed before doctors can recommend phytoestrogens for preventing breast cancer. Phytoestrogens are substances in plants that mimic the action of estrogen. They are common in soy foods, and the high intake of soy foods by Asian women is believed to be linked to their low rate of breast cancer.

Maternal and neonatal phytoestrogens in Japanese women during birth
Article Abstract:
Isoflavonoids are apparently transmitted through the placenta. These are the primary beneficial components of soy products. A study of 7 Japanese women during childbirth found high levels of isoflavonoids in the mother's blood, in cord blood and in amniotic fluid.
