Dietary flavonoid intake and risk of cardiovscular disease in postmenopausal women
Article Abstract:
A study on the antioxidant properties of flavonoids and their role in preventing coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke mortality in post-menopausal women was conducted in 1986 with 34,492 Iowans participating in 10 years of followup. The results suggested that flavonoid intake, especially through the consumption of broccoli, was associated with a decreased risk of CHD death. There was no association with flavonoid intake and stroke mortality.

Commentary: what can we learn from studies of occupational class and cardiovascular disease
Article Abstract:
Scientists believe the escalation of coronary heart disease (CHD) is linked to economic development. The US, Britain, and other developed nations during the 1950s faced similar circumstances of an epidemic of CHD. Results gathered from these countries and developing nations reveal that social class, occupation, and lifestyle behaviors are directly related to CHD.
