Understanding pulse oximetry principles can improve practice
Article Abstract:
A pulse oximetry reading can often mislead and can be misinterpreted without a full knowledge of what it is measuring and the factors than can influence the readings. Pulse oximetry machine is used to measure the extent to which the hemoglobin inside the red blood cells is saturated rather than the actual oxygen concentration in the arterial blood.
