Increased heterogeneity of chromosome 17 aneuploidy in endometriosis
Article Abstract:
Endometriosis may be caused by genetic defects often seen in some cancers. Endometriosis occurs when parts of the uterine lining flow backward through the Fallopian tubes and are deposited inside the abdomen. Although endometriosis is benign, it has some of the same features as cancer. Researchers analyzed the stability of chromosome 17 in particular in endometrial tissue samples from 8 women with endometriosis. The number of chromosomes was more likely to be abnormal in the endometriosis samples than in the healthy samples. Chromosome 17 contains tumor suppressor genes.

Primed in situ labeling for rapid prenatal diagnosis
Article Abstract:
Primed in situ hybridization appears to be a useful technique to rapidly detect chromosome abnormalities in samples taken via amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. This technique was used on 41 samples, 35 chorionic villus samples and 6 uncultured amniocentesis fluid samples. Primers for chromosomes 18, 21, X and Y were used and in all cases, the results were confirmed by conventional cytogenetic analysis.
