With health reform stalled, will supply policy crumble?
Article Abstract:
Observers predict that Republicans in Congress will not put pressure on medical students and residents to specialize in primary care, as proposed by Pres Clinton's administration. Also, Medicare funds for graduate medical education may be reduced. A reduced number of specialty slots for residents may cause the placement of fewer foreign medical graduates. The number of medical graduates entering specialties may be modified by market forces.

Specialties try to slim down
Article Abstract:
Physician specialty groups are realizing that there may be too many specialists in 1995, and they are making efforts to reduce the number of such physicians. The American College of Cardiology and other societies are decreasing the number of fellows training and residency positions. A 50% position reduction in specialists has been recommended for a gastroenterologists committee.
