Do new protease inhibitors offer improved sequencing options?
Article Abstract:
The resistance profiles of the newer protease inhibitors (PIs) and the clinical implications of their resistance pathways, specifically within the context of PI sequencing strategies are reviewed. It is concluded that Pharmacologic boosting allows for an even greater genetic barrier to prevent treatment-emergent resistance or to suppress HIV-1 in treatment-experienced patients who already manifest PI resistance.

Do new protease inhibitors offer improved management options?
Article Abstract:
The potential improvement offered by new protease inhibitors (PIs) and of what is known about PI-containing antiretroviral therapy (ART) to date is discussed. The limitations that are associated with PI, including therapy over the past several years and how newer PIs may shape management schemes for those living with HIV infection through improved safety and tolerability is presented.

Do new protease inhibitors offer improved clinical effectiveness?
Article Abstract:
The potency and efficacy of new protease inhibitors (PIs), examining their effectiveness within the context of the real-world clinical setting is reviewed. The result of the study made suggested that the reduced tolerability of this ritonavir (RTV)-boosted indinavir (IDV) regimen might nevertheless be acceptable in certain carefully selected patients.
