Readers surveyed were 75% in favor of a third major political party. They mostly thought the parties were too partisan, too extreme or too influenced by lobbyists, or did not represent their views. Over half the respondents said a fiscally conservative but socially liberal candidate would be ideal.

Television coverage of the OJ Simpson murder trial caused a majority of readers to believe that cameras should not be permitted in courtrooms. Those who disagreed cited the right to a public trial. The effects of televising on the principals in the case and other topics are discussed.
