Caring cruise
Article Abstract:
The USS Sanctuary was bought in 1972 for $10 million by Life International, a non-profit group in Silver Spring, MD. The ship has been docked ever since, and would require $15-$18 million to refurbish. However, with 750 beds, five intensive care units, three operating rooms and an obstetrics unit, the hospital could serve needy countries around the world. So far, 250 physicians and 350 nurses have volunteered to serve if and when the ship is eventually launched.
