Doctors to feel squeeze of Medicaid budget shortfalls

Budget shortfalls in the Washington Medicaid programs are expected to hit doctors as 37 states are struggling to save money to reduce Medicaid payments for physicians and others before cutting eligibility or covered services in 2003. Medicaid accounts for 20 percent of the average state budget and experts stated that increasing co-payments and deductibles, and reducing benefits cannot save much money as the industry is running lean.
