Does reality orientation work?
Article Abstract:
Research into reality orientation (RO) therapy for people with dementia has shown that the therapy should be used with caution as its efficacy is questionable. RO, a specific rehabilitative programme which aims to reinforce confused elderly patients' contact with reality, has become widely used without proof of its usefulness. Research studies provide inconclusive evidence, with some research suggesting RO is worthwhile in preventing further mental disorientation and assisting reorientation, while other research finds no substantial improvements or beneficial effects.
