Continence promotion among children with severe disabilities
Article Abstract:
Parents of children who suffer continence problems due to severe disabilities often face isolation and a lack of professional help in overcoming the problem. A survey of parents with disabled children found there was a desperate need for the establishment of a needs-led continence service, which could offer advice and 24-hour help. The implementation of toilet-training programmes were often difficult for parents to follow, due mainly to a lack of support in the home and the conflict of caring for other children.
