Dramatic rescue relieves rare case of smallpox infection
Article Abstract:
An American soldier was vaccinated with the smallpox vaccine in Iraq in January 2007 a month later when he returned to the U.S. his two-year-old son was affected by a rare skin infection caused by the vaccinia virus used in the vaccine given to the soldier. The article explains how the child was saved due to coordinated efforts by various health departments, institutions and a Hollywood actor.
