Infuse safety, one pump at a time
Article Abstract:
Studies have shown that in the US, 35% of all medication errors resulting in significant patient harm are the result of intravenous (I.V.) pump errors. The manner in which the Cuero, Texas-based Cuero Community Hospital streamlined its various infusion pump units with the help of a wireless network from point of prescription to point of application, thereby reducing the chance for human error in administering the drugs and keeping the patients healthy, is discussed.
