Drug package inserts get mixed reception
Article Abstract:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) introduced a newly designed package insert that would provide the most important information about a prescription product in a format that should improve comprehension by physicians. While the American Medical Association praised the revised labeling format, Public Citizen, a health advocacy group stated that while the new inserts would benefit physicians, patients who are filling a prescription would only receive a commercially produced leaflet, the content of which is not scrutinized by the FDA.

Former FDA Commissioner David A. Kessler reveals that the major problem faced by FDA is trust, and suggests that it is essential for the American public to have confidence in the FDA.
