Early markers of HIV-1 disease progression in a prospective cohort of seroconverters in Bangkok, Thailand
Article Abstract:
Nearly130 newly HIV-1-infected injection drug users identified in Bangkok were studied during 1995 through 1998 and analyzed on trends in HIV-1 viral loads and CD4 cell counts to the surrogate endpoint defined as 2 consecutive CD4 cell counts of fewer than 350 cells/mm3, during 24 months after first HIV-1 seropositive (FP) visit. It was found that one quarter of seroconverters reached the surrogate immunologic endpoint within 18 months of their FP visit and before starting ART.

Sexually transmitted infection services as a component of HIV care: Findings of a demonstration project among HIV-infected women in Thailand
Article Abstract:
Sexually transmitted infection (STI) services were provided for HIV-infected women as a component of HIV care to assess STI prevalence and risk behaviors in Thailand. STI has been associated with HIV infectiousness and may substantially increase HIV transmission and therefore routine screening for STIs is recommended for sexually active HIV-infected persons by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to decrease HIV transmission.

The spread of HIV-1 subtypes B and CRF01_AE among injecting drug users in Bangkok, Thailand
Article Abstract:
The spread of HIV subtypes B and CRF01_AE, the difference between their incidence and the effect of changes in injecting risk behavior as well as treatment on the distribution of the two variants are studied. It is found that variations in risk behavior and the introduction of treatment may alter the distribution of the subtypes but CRF01_AE remains dominant.
