Article Abstract:
A multidisciplinary approach is need to set up a successful drug self-administration scheme with cooperation between nurses and pharmacists according to a self administration project. Individual patient dispensing on the project was linked to the reuse of patient' medicine. Discharge medication was prepared before the day of discharge and patients were guaranteed a visit from the pharmacist prior to discharge.

Self-administration of drugs: an introduction
Article Abstract:
Some patients may be discharged home without adequate knowledge of their medicines. Many patients do not adhere to drug regimens which could endanger their health. Those who are visualy impaired by not be able to read instructions on the label. The UKCC has now recommended the setting up of self adminsitration schemes during the hospital stay.

Drugs administration keeping pace with change
Article Abstract:
There needs to be greater focus on drugs administration in the training and assessment of nurses as they now have greater responsibility for prescribing and administering medicines. A lot of students do not have a great deal of knowledge of drugs and their side effects, an issue which must be addressed.
