Effect of isabgol husk supplementation in a low-fibre diet on serum levels and calcium, phosphorus and iron balance in adolescent girls
Article Abstract:
The effect of isabgol husk supplementation in a low fiber diet on serum levels and calcium, phosphorus and iron balance in 11 healthy adolescent girls was assessed. Results showed that urinary excretion of phosphorus and iron increased with isabgol husk supplementation. On the other hand, fecal excretion of the minerals as well as their serum levels decreased. Calcium, phosphorus and iron retention was significantly lowered but the balances of the minerals remained positive. Thus, there were no desirable effects found with isabgol supplementation
