Effect of maternal docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplementation on breast milk composition
Article Abstract:
The Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplements in the diet have a specific and dose-dependent influence on the breast milk composition and the DHA content. DHA constitutes 0.2% to 1.7% of the total fatty acids content in breast milk and increases in a dose-dependent manner. The maternal plasma and erythrocyte phospholipid DHA levels also increase with an increase in the DHA intake. However, the arachidonic acid content and antioxidant properties of breast milk are unaffected by the DHA intake.

Effect of increasing breast milk docosahexaenoic acid on plasma and erythrocyte phospholipid fatty acids and neural indices of exclusively breast fed infants
Article Abstract:
A dose dependent saturable rise in infant plasma and erythrocyte phospholipid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) results from boosting breast milk DHA levels. It was established that there is no connection between visual evoked potential (VEP) acuity and dietary grouping or the level of DHA in breast milk. It is possible that increasing DHA in breast milk during the first three months of life may have a small impact on MDI scores at one year.
