Effect of recombinant ApoA-I Milano on coronary atherosclerosis in patients with acute coronary syndromes: a randomized controlled trial
Article Abstract:
An experimental drug called ETC-216 made by Esperion Therapeutics may reduce the plaque inside coronary arteries that can cause a heart attack, according to a study of 47 patients. The patients had been hospitalized with the symptoms of severe angina or a heart attack. ETC-216 contains a synthetic version of ApoA-I Milano, which is an apolipoprotein that occurs in residents of a village in northern Italy. These residents have a low rate of cardiovascular disease even though they have low HDL cholesterol levels.

Effect of very high-intensity statin therapy on regression of coronary atherosclerosis: An ASTEROID trial
Article Abstract:
An investigation to assess whether very intensive satin therapy could regress coronary atherosclerosis as determined by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging is conducted. Results reveal that very high-intensity statin therapy using rosuvastatin 40mg/d achieved an average LDL-C of 60.8 mg/dL and increased HDL-C by 14.7%, resulting in significant regression of atherosclerosis for all 3 prespecified IVUS measures of disease burden.

Effect of intensive compared with moderate lipid-lowering therapy on progression of coronary arteriosclerosis: a randomized controlled trial
Article Abstract:
In a series of pivotal clinical trials, statin drugs have shown to reduce both atherogenic lipo-proteins and cardiovascular morbidity and morality. Although the efficiency of the various statins in reducing atherogenic lipoproteins and vascular inflammation varies significantly, the impact of these differences on clinical outcome is unknown.
