Effect of triglyceride levels on methyl and methylene envelope line widths in proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of human plasma
Article Abstract:
A correlation between the line widths of methyl and methylene of the proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of human plasma and the occurrence of cancer have been reported in recent studies. Line widths averaging less than 33 Hz have been reported to correlate with the presence of cancer. A significant inverse correlation between fasting triglyceride level and plasma spectral line width were found in 26 normal volunteers. The triglyceride level has a substantial effect on the spectrum of blood under NMR and high concentrations of triglyceride produce average plasmamethyl and methylene line widths of less than 33 Hz.

Asbestos exposure, pleural mesothelioma, and serum osteopontin levels
Article Abstract:
The presence of osteopontin in pleural mesothelioma and serum osteopontin levels in three populations, subjects without cancer who were exposed to asbestos, subjects without cancer who were not exposed to asbestos, and patients with pleural mesothelioma who were exposed to asbestos, are investigated. Findings reveal that serum osteopontin levels could be used to distinguish persons with exposure to asbestos who do not have cancer from those with exposure to asbestos who have pleural mesothelioma.

Inhibition of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein in familial hypercholesterolemia
Article Abstract:
A dose-escalation study was conducted to examine the safety, tolerability, and effects on lipid levels of BMS-201038, an inhibitor of the microsomal triglyceride transfer protein in six patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. The microsomal triglyceride transfer protein inhibitor BMS-201038 was effective in reducing the levels of atherogenic apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins by reducing their production in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
