Effect of weight loss and lifestyle changes on vascular inflammatory markers in obese women: a randomized trial
Article Abstract:
Weight loss can decrease blood levels of inflammatory markers that increase a person's risk of cardiovascular disease, according to a study of 120 obese women. These inflammatory markers include interleukin-6, interleukin-18, and C-reactive protein. This could explain why obesity is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, since fat cells can synthesize and secrete these inflammatory markers.

Effect of a Mediterranean-style diet on endothelial dysfunction and markers of vascular inflammation in the metabolic syndrome: a randomized trial
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that a Mediterranean diet may be helpful in decreasing the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and in turn the cardiovascular risk associated with it. Data are drawn from 180 patients with metabolic syndrome in an Italian university hospital.
