Effects of fondaparinux on mortality and reinfarction in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: The Oasis-6 randomized trial
Article Abstract:
A trial to evaluate the effect of fondaparinux, a factor Xa inhibitor, when initiated early and given for up to 8 days versus usual care in patients with acute St-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI) is presented. Results reveal that in patients with STEMI, particularly those not undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention, fondaparinux significantly reduces mortality and reinfarction without increasing bleeding or strokes.

Relationship between time of day, day of week, timeliness of reperfusion, and in-hospital mortality for patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to determine the pattern of door-to-drug and door-to-balloon times by time of day and day of week and whether this pattern may affect mortality. The findings reveal that door-to-balloon times were longer during off-hours than regular hours while door-to-drug times did not differ appreciably by time of day or day of week.

Excess dosing of antiplatelet and antithrombin agents in the treatment of non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndromes
Article Abstract:
A study aims to investigate dosing of unfractionated heparin, low-molecular-weight heparin, and glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors, and the association between dosing and major outcomes. Patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndromes treated in the community often receive excess doses of antithrombotic therapy.
