Effects of ranolazine on recurrent cardiovascular events in patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndromes: The MERLIN-TIMI 36 randomized trial
Article Abstract:
The Metabolic Efficiency with Ranolazine for Less Ischemia in Non-ST-Elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes (MERLIN)-TIMI 36 trial is used to determine the efficacy and safety of ranolazine during long-term treatment of patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The results have shown that the addition of ranolazine to standard treatment for ACS is not effective for reducing major cardiovascular events and did not adversely affect the risk of all-cause death or symptomatic documented arrhythmia.

Effects of ranolazine with atenolol, amlodipine, or diltiazem on exercise tolerance and angina frequency in patients with severe chronic angina: a randomized controlled trial
Article Abstract:
The drug ranolazine may benefit patients who have chronic chest pain caused by coronary artery disease, according to a study of 823 patients. The patients who took the drug were able to exercise longer on a treadmill and got chest pain less frequently than patients who took a placebo, or inactive substance. Ranolazine reduces the heart's need for oxygen so it can continue to function at low oxygen levels.

Ranolazine and other antianginal therapies in the era of the drug-eluting stent
Article Abstract:
The drug ranolazine appears to benefit some patients with chest pain from coronary artery disease, according to a study published in 2004. This gives these patients another option besides angioplasty or coronary artery bypass. Many patients may not be able to have angioplasty or surgery for whatever reason.
