Effects of raloxifene on serum lipids and coagulation factors in healthy postmenopausal women
Article Abstract:
The drug raloxifene may reduce the risk of heart disease and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women without increasing the risk of breast and endometrial cancer as estrogen does. Researchers randomly assigned 390 postmenopausal women to take one of two dosages of raloxifene, estrogen or a placebo and also took blood samples at three and six months. Compared to placebo, both estrogen and raloxifene lowered blood levels of LDL, or 'bad' cholesterol and raised levels of HDL, or 'good' cholesterol. However, raloxifene did not increase triglyceride levels as estrogen did.

Obesity-related plasma hemodilution and PSA concentration among men with prostate cancer
Article Abstract:
The impact of the obesity-related plasma hemodilution on the prostate specific antigen (PSA) concentration among men with prostate cancer is discussed. The analysis shows that the hemodilution leads to decreased PSA concentration in men with high body mass index (BMI).
