Embryogenesis meets tumorigenesis
Article Abstract:
The identification of new biological mediators for metastatic melanoma, one of the most deadly diseases by using zebrafish embryos-Nodal, a member of the TGF-[beta] superfamily as possible entity is reported. Evidence suggests that Nodal promotes tumorigenicity through activation of SMAD2, but does not exclude alternative or additional pathways.

Oxygen deprivation provokes melanoma
Article Abstract:
The effect of a hypoxia-responsive master gene regulatory protein, hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1), on the functional outcome of an oncogenic signaling pathway induced in melanoma is discussed. Rapamycin inhibited soft agar growth and subcutaneous tumorgenesis by Akt-transformed melanocytes and also decreased the activity of HIF -1.

Conjugation of arginine oligomers to cyclosporin A facilitates topical delivery and inhibition of inflammation
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the conjugation of cyclosporin A with arginine, producing R7-CsA. The authors claim cyclosporin A does not effectively penetrate the skin, but R7-CsA, when topically applied, penetrates human skin and treats inflammatory skin disorders.
