Beverly Malone has decided to step down as RCN general secretary in January 2007, after almost six years in one of nursing's most influential jobs. Though Malone has faced several controversies and criticisms from the RCN staff, experiences as an African-American have enabled her to tackle the issue of diversity in RCN, with her tenure at the RCN being the most exciting and challenging period in her life.
