Energy crisis
Article Abstract:
A UK audit found that up to 50% of patients come into hospital in a malnourished state. Health care workers frequently fail to detect malnutrition. Improvements in detection and treatment would reduce recovery times and, potentially, save 266 million pounds sterling per year. Malnutrition occurs in illness due to three causes. It may be due to the increased nutritional requirements of the body following trauma, to malabsorption in gastrointestinal disease, or to reduced nutritional intake by a patient suffering from conditions including neurological dysphagia.
