Evaluation of old and new tests of heterogeneity in epidemiologic meta-analysis
Article Abstract:
Tests for heterogeneity are frequently underpowered and random effects models can be used as a matter of course according to an evaluation of old and new tests of heterogeneity in epidemiologic meta-analysis. For both size and power, performance of all tests considered were not very dependent on value of the pooled odds ratio. Heterogeneity is quantifiable using the proportion of the total variance of the pooled effect measure due to the between-study coefficient of variation and between-study variance.

Epidemiology of injuries among women after physical assaults: the role of self-protective behaviors
Article Abstract:
The epidemiology of injuries among women after physical assaults and the role of self-protective behaviors are discussed. Inverse association has been found between self-protective behaviors and injury risk in a sample including 3,206 incidents involving a woman and a lone male offender, but studies are inconsistent and it would be well to use caution when recommendations are made to women about behavior in a physical assault.
