Eugenic Sterilization and a Qualified Nazi Analogy: The United States and Germany, 1930-1945
Article Abstract:
The authors discuss state-sponsored eugenic sterilization programs, comparing similarities and showing the differences between the program in Nazi Germany and the program in the United States between 1930 and 1945. They point to the similarities common to both in motivation, intent, and strategy, and also to the differences that caused the program in the United States to gradually vanish. In Nazi Germany, they point out, emerging hypernationalism, extreme economic crisis, Hitler's absolute authority, and economic incentives for the medical profession supported it. In the United States, negative public opinion, religious opposition, democratic processes and medical community criticism ended it.

Antimicrobial prescribing in the United States: good news, bad news
Article Abstract:
Doctors are prescribing fewer antibiotics but when they do prescribe an antibiotic, they prescribe a broad-spectrum antibiotic. These antibiotics are designed to kill several different types of bacteria rather than just one. However, this could cause all of the bacteria affected by the antibiotic to become resistant to it. Doctors should prescribe an antibiotic that is specific for a certain bacteria.

Attitudes and practices of cancer doctors in the United States regarding euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide
Article Abstract:
Many cancer patients ask their doctors to help them die but few cancer doctors agree, according to a survey of 3,299 oncologists. Sixty-three percent had received such a request in their career and 31% had received one within the past year. Only 11% had helped a patient commit suicide and only 4% participated in a mercy killing.
