Looking back, I definitely wanted to die
Article Abstract:
A suicidal patient gives an account of her suicide attempts and of the manner in which health personnel treated her. She frequently took overdoses and cut herself, and believes that she really did want to die. She feels she was looking for someone to give her a reason to live, but that the unsympathetic approach of health personnel gave her a reason to die. She has found a friendship with someone who is a psychiatric nurse to be particularly helpful. She perceives this man as being different from other psychiatric personnel.

A bloody tradition
Article Abstract:
A delegation from AMSOPT, the association of Malian women against harmful traditional practices, visited Mali, where the practice of female circumcision is still undertaken. The most extreme form is infibulation, where the clitoris and labia are removed and the vaginal orifice is reduced, and this is common in Mali. Education sessions aim to make the women consider whether they want their daughter to go through the experience.
