Safety by design: how product design and packaging can reduce lifting injuries
Article Abstract:
Product designers and manufacturers can protect their customers from lifting injuries by searching for ways to decrease unit weight, identifying the balance points, and instituting new designs that can eradicate hazards. When designs could not eliminate hazards, safeguards such as handles and lift eyelets must come with the packaging. Proper warning and instructions are the last available options. The concerns on lifting injuries have been predicated by earlier studies which confirmed that 20-25% of all occupational injuries are due to the manual handling of objects.

Safety and the telecommuter
Article Abstract:
Businesses that employ telecommuters must be aware that this type of employees are also subject to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations. Thus, employee safety is a major consideration when formulating a telecommuting program. The three basic elements of a safe telecommuting program are the right type of employees, guidelines concerning their job and work environments and a written telecommuting policy.
