Everybody's problem
Article Abstract:
Top health service managers in the UK have expressed clear commitment to equal opportunities for employees, but there are no signs in practice of an improvement in the working environment for black and ethnic minority nurses. There have been a number of cases recently of black and ethnic minority nurses being the victim of discrimination, and it is clear that equal opportunities do not yet exist. It is time for health service unions to take seriously their responsibilities towards these nurses.

Race into action
Article Abstract:
The National Health Service (NHS) has over recent years produced a number of guidelines designed to produce equality in employment for staff from ethnic minorities. However, it is clear that there is still no systematic approach towards dealing with racial discrimination within the NHS. Ethnic minority nurses still have to face harassment and discrimination, and this prevents effective working with their colleagues. It is the responsibility of every nurse to fight against this.

Warning: racism at work
Article Abstract:
Many black and ethnic minority nurses in the UK have faced harassment and discrimination. This can have a very negative impact on their career progression, and in some cases can prompt them to abandon nursing altogether. Racism against black and ethnic minority nurses is particularly common outside large cities, where ethnic groups are less common. It is vital that all nurses and managers take action to ensure that racism is not allow to continue.
