Evidence for age-related differences in the fatty acid composition of human adipose tissue, independent of diet
Article Abstract:
Ageing can have an impact on adipose fatty acid composition independent of dietary fat intake. A fall in the rate limiting step of delta-6 desaturation seems to take place with age, and is more marked in women than in men. It is possible that a rise in dietary gamma-linolenic acid is required with age. The link between adipose tissue fatty acids composition and age may be complicated by wide-ranging dietary, adipose tissue fatty acid interactions.
