Article Abstract:
A British midwife working for international charity Medecins Sans Frontieres in Afghanistan describes her experiences when nursing in Afghanistan. The midwife's instructions were to establish a primary health-care service mainly for mothers and children. Her biggest obstacles to providing such a programme are the ingrained traditions associated with childbirth that could be dangerous to the health of both mothers and babies. Her work involves her with travelling around villages to instruct local birth attendants in all aspects of childbirth.

Hard cash concern
Article Abstract:
Efforts to involve nurses in means-testing work on behalf of social services departments present an ethical dilemma for the nurses concerned. Some nurses feel that the requirement to report on their clients' finances is having a negative impact on their relationship with clients. Particular problems arise for community nurses and specialists who have responsibility for a large client group in a single area.
