Extent and effectiveness of the Scope of Professional Practice
Article Abstract:
A study exploring the extent of initiatives associated with the UKCC's Scope of Professional Practice found that the document is ideologically rather than empirically driven. It also found that heads of nursing believe that the document provided an opportunity for individual practitioners to develop their roles, which in turn would benefit patient care. Some respondents indicated difficulties in persuading practitioners to recognise the significance of the document, and some felt it had not impacted non-nursing management at strategic levels.

Flying the standards
Article Abstract:
Former Director of Nursing Standards at the UKCC Maggy Wallace describes her experiences as advisor of standards in nursing education in Yugoslavia. She found level of training satisfactory but nurses working on the wards were hampered by the lack of nursing records. There were around 24,000 Yugoslavia nurses working in hospitals throughout the country. Many of those who spoke to Wallace admitted they has not been fully paid for two months. She was not allowed to see any nurses at work which made her report difficult to compile.
