FDA perspective on anti-TNF treatments
Article Abstract:
The FDA believes the long-term effectiveness and safety of anti-TNF treatments for rheumatoid arthritis have not yet been demonstrated. Anti-TNF treatments are drugs that block the activity of tumor necrosis factor, which has been implicated in the development of rheumatoid arthritis.

Clinical implications of tumour necrosis factor alpha antagonism in patients with congestive heart failure
Article Abstract:
Drugs that block the activity of tumor necrosis factor may be beneficial in the treatment of heart failure. Levels of this immune system protein increase in heart failure, and may damage the heart further.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease of joints and tumor necrosis factor is believed to be the major protein involved. The role of tumor necrosis factor and its receptor is reviewed.
