C-Reactive Protein, Interleukin 6, and Risk of Developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Article Abstract:
Inflammation may play a role in the development of type 2, or adult-onset, diabetes. In a study of 27,628 women who have been followed since 1992, those with elevated blood levels of C-reactive protein or interleukin-6 were between 7 and 15 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Both of these substances are markers of inflammation.

C-reactive protein and the risk of developing hypertension
Article Abstract:
High blood pressure may develop as a result of inflammation, according to a study of 20,525 healthy women who were followed for an average of eight years. During that time, 5,365 women developed high blood pressure and these women were more likely to have high blood levels of C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation. Women with the highest levels of C-reactive protein had a 50% greater risk of developing high blood pressure than women with the lowest levels after adjusting for other risk factors.

Fasting compared with nonfasting triglycerides and risk of cardiovascular events in women
Article Abstract:
Studies conducted to determine the association of nonfasting triglyceride levels with incident cardiovascular events was observed to be independent of traditional cardiac risk factors, levels of other lipids, and markers of insulin resistance.
